Connection

A Far Away Place

-Sean and his sister Josie where still missing. The police where trying to locate them. Detecive Constable Harding went to their school to talk to the children to find out if they could give him some clues to help them find the missing children.
The Detective told the children of what had happened to Sean and Josie when they were leaving school, hoping that they will remember something even a very small detail which will help them in their investigation.

-(Connection) This reminds me of a game we play with my friends and my dad, when I have visitors coming to see me in the house in the mountains. The house is very close to Troodos and there is a forest all around it. In this game we walk in the forest, always with my dad, looking for clues which may be will lead us to some discovery.
I remember when I was in Junior School when a friend of mine came to see us during a weekend on the house at the mountains. After lunch me and my friends and my dad took our walking sticks and walked in the forest trying to look for clues. While walking on a little path we found a lot of marks on the ground which looked like scratches and lots of little broken twigs. We all thought that a rabbit or some kind of bird passed by through there. We started looking for a nest or a hole in the ground. Finally we spotted a little hole, we looked very, very carefully inside but we didn't find anything. Maybe the rabbit got scared from the noise and was hidding deep inside the hole. We carriend on and then my friend spotted some used bullets on the ground and a bit further up I found a boot. This was an amazing clue. We started looking everywhere for a dead body, it was really scary. No matter how hard we searched we didn't find anything at all.
I still wondered if there was really a dead body somewhere or it was just my dad making fun of us.
However I find this a very interesting game which I still play with my dad and my friends when they come over for a visit at the house on the mountains.

A FAR AWAY PLACE

Connection # 14

Sean and josie were taken by their dad in a black car when they were leaving from school. They drove for sometime until they reached  a sea side town where a sailing boat was waiting to take them on a trip, probably to France. Sean was scared because his dad was not telling him where they were going, and he also wanted to talk to his mother to tell her that he was with his dad. On the other hand Josie was so excided.

(Connection ) This reminds me (the part with the sailing boat ), when we were invited to the christening of Alexis, the son of my parents friends, Tatia and Christofer. The christening was going to take place in Paros, a little island in Greece. We took the plane with my parents and we went to Athens where we stayed for the night. The next day we were going to take the boat to go to Paros. In the evening when we went for dinner, we met accidentally my dad's friend Mr. Spyros who was also invited to the christening, and he was going with his private motor boat. We were so lucky he offered to take us with him. I felt so happy and very excited I was going to travel on a motor boat ( yaht) for the first time in my life. The next morning we went to the marina, where we met Mr. Spyros who led us to his boat but of course we had to take our shoes off before getting on it. There the captain and his assistant showed us to our cabins where we could have a rest during the trip. The boat was very luxurious with white carpets on the floor. My cabin had 2 beds 3 windows at the side and a shower.
I was so excieted but also tired for waking up early that I slept for three hours. It was a fantastic experience.

A FAR AWAY PLACE

Connection # 13

Tinker being an only child (just like me) had never found it easy to make friends at school. Tinker had been lonely until Sean switched classes a year ago and they found thenselves sitting next to each other having Sean as a friend made all the difference to Tinker. It would be awful at school without a friend to play and to talk.

(Connection ) This reminds me,  when I was in my old school, before I came to the AISC. My old school was called the  Juniot School. But when I was in the 4th grade I left because it was a terrible school and the teachers were very hard with us that I couldn't help it anymore. I wanted to burst into tears and run far far away from that awful school and  never see it for the rest of my life. It was a school of misery and all blackness there.I worried so much changing school and leaving my friends behind. I was sure I was going to miss my friends a lot, but on the other hand we could always see each other someday. When I moved to AISC I saw some of the boys and girls from the old school. Karin and Panayiotis were there, but also Ioannis came along also from Jounior School. But here oh! You can't believe how polite the teachers are, you feel like you are in Paradise!!! By the way I met so many new friends and I fitted in very well in my new school. In my old school I felt I was a missing piece of a puzzle, but when I came here the piece fitted perfectly. I am part of the AISC family from now on.

A FAR AWAY PLACE

- Sean was looking in the school grounds for his little sister Josie, so that they can go home together. School was over. Sean looked everywhere but he could not find Josie. The other first graders were around Sean showing off their paintings. He started getting very worried, wondering where Josie might be , but that was when he heard the car horn. Someone was waving from inside a black car parked further up the street. He went a bit closer to the car and he saw his sister hanging out of the window waving and calling.
How did she do that? She should never have got into the car. She knew the rules: Their mum was always telling her kids not to talk to strangers.

( Connection) This reminds me of when I was all alone at home, my dad was at work and my mum had to go see my grandmother who was sick. But I heard the bell ring, so I saw who it was. It was my mum's friend Mr. Tameriese. He wanted to leave some things for us, but I said to myself. " Should I let him in? Or not. But I knew the rules of the house. Do not speak or open doors to strangers. Besides I didn't know who it was, so I asked who it was. I was thinking, was he a thief? Should I open? Then I finally said to him " Please leave them on my dad's motorcycle. " So he did. When he left I quickly rushed downstairs, got the things that he left for us and then I went upstairs to put'em on the kitchen counter.

DO NOT TALK TO STRANGERS!!!!

Perspective

  • A Jar of Dreams is in 1st Person because it's telling I in the story. I know that because it says here '' I knew something was wrong.''
  • You hear her thoughts of  the table being a mess. ''If  I had left it that way, or my little brother Joji, we sure would have heard about it from Mama.''
  • She looked  at the Jaapanese writing in the letter, squiggling up and down the soft rice paper like a lot of skinny black spiders, and wished that I could read it. She was squinting at the paper trying to read what was on it, but she couldn't read it besides she didn't know how to read Japansese very well(only a bit).
  • The mother was in a rush to go off to work and that's why she left it a huge mess. But the girl was not OK with that, because the mother was usually very neat and tidy, but this time she wasn't she was late for work.

Lu Si-yan and her new friends walked in a karaoke bar, a man was playing the music and they all had to stand on the stage and sing. She could not believe it that she had to stand in front of all those people, watching with exspectations. She wanted to run away and hide. Her heart was beating very hard and fast and she felt sick standing on the stage. When she joined in with the singing she felt much more confortable and happy. She was ever so happy singing her favourite song.
(Connection) I will tell you a story when I found myself more or less in a similar sitiuation, and now I understand exactly how Lu Si-yan felt being on stage and felling very scared.

I was nearly 6 years old when I had my first ever ballet performance with my ballet school. It was close to Christmas and it was going to be in a very big theater and lots of people where coming to watch the performance.
We started preparing many months before.I was practicing a lot at my ballet school, trying to learn all the steps off by heart. We even had special dress-up cloths to wear for the big performance. The big day was coming very soon and I was feeling very nervous. On the day of the performance my nanny took me to the theater so I could start getting ready for the performance  was coming.
I remember how I felt. My stomach was very upset, I thought I was going to be sick. My stomach felt like I had evil butterflies in it. I was wondering if I could make it to the stage. Many people came to see me dancing. The whole family was there and a lot of my friends too so I had to do my best and not let them down.
When I got on stage I thought I was going to faint, but slowly solwly I started to calm down and enjoy myself and I believe i didnt do many mistakes. I had memorised all the steps off by heat. At the end I really enjoyed my very first ballet perormance and I was really happy to see everybody clapping.

Lu Si-yan got on the ferry traveling on the river back to her mother. The ticket man approched her and told her how much she had to pay for her ticket. Lu Si-yan took her bag and tried to find her money that Mrs. Hong had given her, she turned her bag upside down, emptie everything from it, but she could not find the money. The money wasn't there it was gone an someone must have stolen it while she was sleeping in the little house, she thought to herself maybe the men there that she heard took it from her. Lu Si-yan fainted at the thought of losing her money.

(Connection) This reminds me of something which had happened to my dad just after the summer break. The whole family was in Athens, and we went to see a music concert in a huge stadium. It was the stadium where the Olymic Games took place in 2004. It look ever so grand. We met some old friends from my old school an we all took a taxi to go there. We joined the qeue at the entrance of the stadium, we showed our tickets to the securaty woman, and we went in. Me and my friends wanted T-shirts as souveniers so my dad and his good friend went to the kiosk to buy them. When they went to pay they discovered that both of their wallets were stolen. I was very sad and very worried because we didnt have any money at all. We went and found our seats in the stadium and the show began. Oh yeah, i forgot to tell you that it was a very hot night. We were all so thirsty and we wanted some water to drink, but we didn't have any money to get some. After a while, we had a very big suprise. we saw my dad coming with bottoles of water. HORRAY, i have no idea where he found the money to get the water for us.
IT'S ALL A MYSTERY.

Mrs Hong, Mrs Cren's mother in law, she could not walk and she was using a wheelchair. Her legs gave up years ago, and her eyesightr was not so good, which is why she liked to have someone to read to her. The rest of her was in full working order.

(Connection) My grandmother, Chrysoulla, was very ill a few months ago. She had a stroke and since then she cannot move her left hand and her left leg. She stays most of the time in bed and she moves only with a wheelchair. As she can't move her hand, she always needs someone to push her wheelchair. Our maid Siti, is staying with her and helping her a lot. I visit my grandmother very often and, because her house is not very fat from ours, when I have free time I always try to see her. I sit down next to her and we chat a lot, I tell her about how well i'm going at school, that I met new friends, I do my homework and what I do at ballet. I don't read books to her, but we play a lot of card games. together, and sometimes I let her win and make her laugh and feel happy. The happiest moments are when she calls me over and we all have pizza, and I do hope she will get better and start to walk again.

In the kitchen  Lu Si-yan was cutting vegetables and she cut herself deeply, a stain of blood fell on the floor, and she didn't know what to do, so she quickly got a kitchen cloth and wrapped it around her hand.

(Connection) When I was about 11 years old, I was cutting up some carrots and my hand slipped and I cut myself really bad, I didn't know what to do, so I looked around me trying to find something to wrap my hand. My mum came into the kitchen asking what happened to me, so i told her that i cut myself really bad so my mum and i went to the hospital to stitch it up and it was better in a few days.

Spilled Water

Spilled Water
Spilled water is about a girl called Lu Si-yan. She has one small brother and lives with her mother. Their father died from a very serious  desease. They were very poor and her uncle was helping them tosurvive. Unfortunately Lu Si-yan had to be taken to a rich family were she was working very hard.Well anyway I love the book too much that I read many chapters almost every  day.

The characters are very interesting, because they each have a meaning in the story that they all give me a connection to my life. At first the story was a bit boring but when it started to grow to the climate I couldn't stop reading.

I didn't understand  one of the characters in the book. Is not that interesting because he doesn't give us much infortmation about him, who he is and how he helps his family and that character is Uncle. He is a bad person and when Lu Si-yan's mother was very sick he didn't help, he just called the doctor to come and just went away like he didn't care at all. Well mother didn't have enough money to care for Lu Si-yan and her brother and so Uncle sold her to a rich family to work and earn money. I feel Lu Si-yan will be very happy with her new family. She has to learn many things with her new family especially how to behave . I can tell by the way she feels and how she reacts to her emotions.
